The Spring Egg Show 2002Just as it seems appropriate that the Annual Show is held in early autumn and has a Harvest Festival feel about it, so it seemed right to be holding our first Egg Show on Easter Sunday. Not so much a competition more a celebration of what we produce. Stalwart members, friends and visitors created an enthusiastic attendance. The 19 classes attracted 71 exhibits. They included beautiful khaki coloured tinted eggs from Dave and Rena, exquisitely decorated duck eggs from Linda and a model of the of the Craft Night Workshop from Dave B. (just who was the egg with the moustache and bald head meant to be?) While Reg had the unenviable task of judging, the crowd was entertained by the sale of objets d'art brought to the table by Ros and Maggie. Surprisingly, Maggie did not manage to sell or even give away, a charming metal lampshade. The judging completed, everyone again admired the high quality exhibits before being heroically led to the kitchen table by Derek, in order to enjoy the afternoon tea. Despite confusion over the contents of a bantie's egg, which everyone disclaimed despite being a winner, the results were ably co-ordinated by Margaret. Eve's name was read out a few times but she allowed others to have a share of the prizes. A vote of thanks, a viewing of old club photographs showing a younger Billy exhibiting goats, a poem from the bard, all blended together to make a perfect afternoon. We promised ourselves a repeat event next year. |
