Visit To The Cheese Farm

On Sunday May 11th a good turnout of members (26) met at the Make Me Rich Farm, the home of The Northumberland Cheese Company. We were given a tour of the premises by club member Miranda Dickenson who makes the cheeses there. Miranda talked us through the whole process of the cheese making from the filling of the vats with the milk, they use cows, goats and sheep milk, to get different flavours and textures, to cutting the curd and flavouring it. Then we saw the finished cheeses maturing on the shelves and followed that with a tasting session which was thoroughly enjoyed.
Back outside we had coffee and tea served by the “Dickenson lads” (Miranda’s husband and son) and Miranda continued to answer members questions. A vote of thanks was given by our chairman Bob Morgan for a great afternoon.
